A message about passion…

Check out this video my friend and colleague Erin shared with me. It really resonated with me and spoke to my passion for teaching! Enjoy!

  1. That is so incredible! WOW! I am blown away, and not sure which line struck closest to home with me (not the reference to KFC, that much I know!). I think that I liked it best when he said, “Live your dreams or live your excuses.” What an amazing video. Thank you for sharing this Allie! PURSUE…YOUR PASSION!

  2. So glad you enjoyed this! It is a very moving piece, I hope I can find a way to inspire my future students as much as this has done for me! This idea of “pursuing your passion” can so easily be crushed a very young age.

  3. Allie, you are right – it is indeed a fragile notion. I think that one of the greatest challenges that children face is do they follow their passion or do they follow the expectations of others – parents, religious leaders and yes, teachers. I remember as a child being told that I should be a nurse. While I have passion for helping others, I am grateful that I didn’t choose nursing as a career – it would have been a huge mistake for me to follow that path. I often wonder how different my life would have been had I been encouraged to pursue my passion! A gifted teacher, as I know that you will be, would never put restraints on a childs dream.
Oh…one other thing that ties in with this theme. Oprah Winfrey, several years ago now, did a great show on people who achieved in areas that others had told them they would fail at. One guy was a NASA engineer, which teachers told him he should not pursue because he was not smart enough. Maybe see if you can find that episode.
